Rev. Fr. Thomas Newlin
The proistamenos of St. Sophia is Fr. Thomas Newlin. Fr. Thomas' first Sunday at St. Sophia was on July 1, 2018. Prior to his assignment at St. Sophia, Fr. Thomas served as assistant priest at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Houston, Texas. Prior to his time in Houston, Fr. Thomas served as proistamenos of Dormition Of The Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church in Greensboro, NC.
Fr. Thomas was awarded the Offikion of Oikonomos on May 6, 2023 by His Grace Bishop Constantine of Sassima.
Dn. Nikolas Papanikolaou
A graduate of the diaconate program from Hellenic College Holy Cross in 2020, Deacon Nikolas was ordained to the Holy diaconate on November 21, 2021 on the feast day of the Entrance of the Theotokos to the temple. The ordination was celebrated by HE Tarasios, Metropolitan of Rhodopolis. Prior to his ordination Dn. Nikolas was a member of the chanting group at Saint Sophia. He was born and raised in Greece and came to the USA in 1989 to pursue post graduate studies and clinical training. When he is not serving at Saint Sophia, he works as member of the faculty at the University of Texas HSC San Antonio at the Mays Cancer Center. His wife, Diakonissa Thomais, and their four children, Panos, Katerina, Nikolas and Rebeka call San Antonio and Saint Sophia home since 2005.
